There really is nothing like using natural rope.
Jute, a fast growing plant much like hemp, is considered the absolute pinnacle of natural fibre restraints. It is the rope favoured by most Nawashi practitioners in Japan because it naturally has very high tensile strength and low extensibility - making for safer, better Shibari. It doesn’t stretch or give, so the ties you make with this rope are strong and stable.
While lighter than European hemp rope, it is still a little heavier than typical Japanese cotton rope. Each ply is made from many smaller twists, so it has wonderful definition and leaves behind beautifully clear marks. And best of all, with a little care you’ll be using this rope for years. The secret behind the durability is the high number of twists per inch which makes it virtually immune to wear and kinking.
Things You Should Know:
- 10 metre length
- To clean: Hand wash OR Chain braid or coil the rope, place in a lingerie bag, & machine wash on the most delicate cycle. Wash ropes separately from your clothes and other colors. Do not bleach!
- To dry: Hang to air dry after uncoiling or unbraiding.
